Plagiarism and Redundancy Policy – Hue University Journal of Medicine and Pharmacy

1. Objective
Hue University Journal of Medicine and Pharmacy is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity. Plagiarism in any form is considered a serious violation. All submitted manuscripts are screened for originality and checked for potential AI-generated content using recognized tools.
2. Definitions
- Plagiarism: Presenting ideas, text, figures, or data of others as one’s own without proper attribution.
- Self-plagiarism / Redundant Publication: Reusing substantial parts of the author’s previously published work without appropriate citation.
3. Similarity Threshold
- The overall similarity index must not exceed 20%, provided that:
+ Overlapping content is properly cited;
+ Overlaps primarily come from standard terminology, common methods, or quoted passages;
+ References, titles, or institutional names are excluded from the similarity calculation.
4. Citation Responsibilities
Authors must:
- Accurately cite all sources used;
- Use quotation marks for verbatim text;
- Appropriately cite their own previously published work.
5. Detection and Screening
- Manuscripts are checked at submission and may be re-checked after revision.
- Manuscripts exceeding the similarity threshold or showing signs of plagiarism will be immediately rejected.
6. Redundant Publication
- Manuscripts must report original research not previously published elsewhere.
- If based on previously collected data or prior studies, authors must clearly explain the novel contribution.
- Unjustified fragmentation of research findings (“salami slicing”) is prohibited.
7. Handling Violations
- The journal will notify authors of the screening results;
- Authors may be asked to provide clarification or revise the manuscript;
- Confirmed plagiarism will result in:
+ Manuscript rejection;
+ Published articles may be corrected or retracted;
+ Serious cases may result in a one-year submission ban.
8. Appeals
Authors may appeal editorial decisions by providing evidence or explanation within the designated timeframe.
9. Recommendations
- Authors are encouraged to use plagiarism detection tools prior to submission;
- Adhere to proper citation practices and maintain scientific honesty;
- Disclose any AI-assisted content or software contributions relevant to key scientific elements of the manuscript.
