Publication Ethics

Hue University Journal of Medicine and Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University follows the standards set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (https://publicationethics.org/files/u7141/1999pdf13.pdf) and the regulations of the State Professor Council, promoting integrity in peer-reviewed research publications.

1. Responsibilities of Authors

  • Authorship: Only individuals who have made substantial contributions to the research should be listed as authors. Any changes to authorship must be approved by all relevant parties.
  • Originality: Manuscripts must be original and must not have been previously published or simultaneously submitted to another journal.
  • Plagiarism and Citation: Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited. All sources must be appropriately and accurately cited.
  • Data Integrity: Research data must be accurate and reliable. Fabrication, falsification, or selective reporting of data is strictly prohibited. Authors must provide supporting data upon request.
  • Redundant Publication: Authors must not publish the same research in multiple journals or fragment research findings inappropriately.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose all potential conflicts of interest (financial, personal, institutional, etc.). If none exist, authors should state: “The authors declare no conflicts of interest.”
  • Research Ethics: Studies involving human participants or animals must have appropriate ethical approval from a recognized ethics committee.
  • Post-publication Corrections: Authors must promptly notify the Editorial Board if significant errors are discovered and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article if necessary.

2. Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Objectivity and Constructiveness: Reviews must be conducted objectively, fairly, and without personal bias.
  • Confidentiality: Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or used for personal purposes.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist or when they lack sufficient expertise.
  • Ethical Vigilance: Reviewers should notify the Editorial Board of any suspected ethical issues, including plagiarism, duplication, or misconduct.

3. Responsibilities of the Editorial Board

  • Publication Decisions: Decisions are based on scientific merit, originality, and peer-review reports, ensuring independence and objectivity.
  • Peer Review Process: The journal applies a double-blind peer review process with at least two independent reviewers.
  • Fairness: Manuscripts are evaluated without discrimination based on gender, institutional affiliation, nationality, or personal beliefs.
  • Confidentiality: Editorial members must maintain confidentiality of manuscripts and reviewer identities.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Editors must not be involved in handling manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist.

4. Handling of Ethical Misconduct

Misconduct includes plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, redundant publication, and citation manipulation. The journal follows COPE guidelines in handling such cases, which may include:

  • Rejection of the manuscript
  • Retraction of published articles
  • Notification to relevant institutions
  • Submission ban for up to one year

5. Corrections and Retractions

  • Correction: Issued for errors that do not significantly affect the conclusions
  • Retraction: Issued in cases of serious misconduct or major errors
